one.five launches the first commercial AI-generated sustainable packaging solution tailored for snacks, ready-to-eat foods, and travel accessories—helping the airline, travel, and hospitality industries reduce their environmental footprint
31 March 2025 — one.five, a leader in sustainable packaging and AI solutions, announces the launch of new packaging solutions designed to help the airline, travel, and hospitality industries meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations and accelerate the implementation of new products. This milestone is the first-ever validation that an AI-generated system can deliver market-ready sustainable materials whilst also significantly reducing product development times from 24 months to around 100 days.
The tourism and hospitality sectors collectively generate over 75 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable alternatives. For example, a single 360-seat Boeing 747 flight produces over 500 kilograms of waste, the majority of which is plastic.
"The travel industry has long struggled with the painfully slow pace of new product development, which can sometimes take upwards of 18-24 months from concept to market. This extended timeline has severely hampered the sector's ability to respond to rapidly changing regulations and consumer demands for sustainable solutions. With our new products, we're not just offering alternatives to plastic - we are offering the first commercially deployed AI-generated solution, and a paradigm shift in sustainable packaging innovation”, says Claire Hae-Min Gusko, Co-Founder of one five.
“At WTCE in Hamburg, we will showcase our travel snacks and foods packaged in our sustainable Glassleaf products together with the promotional products manufacturer Krott GmbH & Co. KG to present a comprehensive range of in-flight and travel catering solutions. We welcome airlines and other industry players to come visit our booth to discover our combined product offering: a portfolio of full-service solutions that we can tailor to meet all your in-flight or in-travel catering or accessory needs.", adds Martin Weber, Co-Founder of one.five.
one.five and Krott have already begun offering travel snacks for prominent airlines, packaged in their sustainable materials, which will be offered in-flight later this year. In addition, one.five will also continue enhancing their AI co-pilot with additional predictive tools to further expedite packaging development. These will help anticipate material performance, especially in the critical forming and filling lines, allowing for more precise and efficient design adjustments.
one.five will be exhibiting at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) in Hamburg from April 8-10, 2025. Visit one.five at their booth 4D59 to discover their latest innovations in travel catering and onboard services
